Sp. Needs Stroller

Hello!

Our Noah is SIX today! He is a walker, but not for long distances or long outings. He is 41 pounds and 40 inches and TOO big to carry and too big for grocery carts.

I have been talking with the PT at his school and a vendor who works with Medicaid and he has given me too many choices. LOL!

I figured we'd end up with a Maclaren as that is what I've mostly seen. He has also suggested a Convaid EZ Rider or Cruiser. They are actually ped. wheelchairs.

I just want something easy to use for our outings, something that won't consume the small trunk of my mini-van and is light weight and easy to open and close.

He gave me a link to look at:

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE your thoughts and experience!

Thanks,
Hollie

if money were not an issue I would choose the convaid metro. It's lightwieght and compact and looks less like a wheelchair. There's nothing wrong with wheelchairs of course, but why attract even more needless attention, but that's just me. While looking for a stroller for my son who is the same age and weight as Noah, I searched and liked the Maclaren, alot. I then usually do a search on craigslist and see if I can find it there cheap. I'm a nut when it comes to saving money. smiling smiley

We just got one ordered today. Here's a link to the one we got. It's really nice.

Drake is 10 he weighs 60 pounds and is 47 inches tall. He does not walk for very long. He does have times where he decides to leave/run away/elope, at that time he is very fast and does not use any safety skills at all. He was within about two inches of getting hit by a truck. The truck stopped because he heard me screaming, he could not see Drake. With that said we were just approved for a partial grant to recieve a stroller. The grant team found a stroller cheaper than the one we chose. The one they found is more like a cross between an umbrella stroller and a wheelchair, I was not oppessed to that stroller. We could recieve that one and not cost us anything or we could add money to the grant and recieve the stroller we chose. We are going to add money and Drake will be getting an Axiom 3 to allow him plenty of room for him to grow. It also has a five point harness which was a must for Drake as he can undo the three point ones. Drake is excited and keeps asking when his new stroller is coming.

Thanks for your input! This is harder than I thought.

Does anyone have experience with this one?

No experience, but that was one that we looked at along with the special tomato jogger. However for us we needed something that would hold more weight since Drake is already 60 pounds. We were going for the special tomato jogger and Drake's team found the Axiom and asked us to thnik about the axiom as it allowed more growth room for him. I shyed away from Axiom because it is pricey however it is fully equiped where sometimes with the other stollers you have to buy the extras. The special tomato jogger is one that you have to buy the extras ( like the shopping bag and indoor wheels etc.) When you added it all together the price came out closer to the Axiom. Choosing a stroller can be very difficult with so many choices and things to think about. Good luck and let us know what you choose and when you actually use the stroller lets us know how you like it.
